On Saturday K Orn and Suree’s team from Goodboy came to visit us at Khadiravana to look at the site where we will build the Tibetan earth house and to discuss necessary preparations. Their great support is a driving force for this project.

Preparing for the Earth House

From the first day ( a few weeks ago) till now:

Yonten drew a picture of a Tibetan earth house. The project took him back to his hometown in eastern Tibet and to his childhood when he helped his relatives build a house made of mud with other people in the village.

We went to see Jun, one of the foundation’s architects to consult on the possibility of the Tibetan earth house at Khadiravana. Jun efficiently drafted this architectural plan. Previously Jun suggested us to build retreat houses with mud.

Our plan is to make it a model for a Tibetan house in Thailand. Yet, it is suitable for Thai climate and is practical in term of living.

November 10: Yonten and I performed a “chutor” ceremony  in the midst of the sunny day at the site where the house will be built.

On November 11 (Dakini Day) we started clearing the soil.

Update on the Earth House Project

Today is my second day at Khadiravana. We started the day by measuring the site where a Tibetan earth house will be built. The place we chose is where the first Khadira trees were planted by many masters the first year we bought the land three years ago. The front view overlooks Khadiravana’s mountains and the Stupa site.  There will be a courtyard, two bedrooms and a living room. We are happy that soon we will be able to receive our teachers properly.

Our workers did the measurement and prepared a wooden tool to knead the earth like the way Tibetans build their mud houses.

In a few days we’ll start a stone foundation and prepare materials for volunteers who will be joining hands to make this project possible. We will use mud on our land and will try our best to make this house project as economical as possible.

We’d like to thank Khun Orn and Khun Suree for their enthusiasm leading to the initiation of this earth house project. We are grateful to Khun Jun, as always, for the architectural design of the house. And to Khun Jaroen for responding positively when I first told him about the idea of building a retreat/reception house for lamas.

Khadira Forest of the Liberator in the Auspicious Aeon

Khadiravana Center’s Tibetan name “Kesang Kundrol Sengteng Nagtsal Ling” (Bskal bzang kun sgrol seng ldeng nags tshal gling) meaning “Khadira Forest of the Liberatorl in the Auspicious Aeon”. The name is bestowed to us by Latri Khenpo Geshe Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche on 10 October 2009. The Center’s short name in Tibetan is “Kundrol Ling”. The word “drol” refers to Drolma (Tara). The word Kundrol is also a name of Chamma, mother of loving kindness (same essence as Tara), and refers to a wisdom dakini Thugji Kundrolma.

ในคราวที่ท่านญีมา ทรักปา ริมโปเชเดินทางมาเมืองไทยเพื่อมาประกอบพิธีพระมหาสถูปและสอนธรรมะซกเช็น ท่านได้ตั้งชื่อภาษาทิเบตอย่างเป็นทางการให้ศูนย์ขทิรวันในวันที่ 10 ตุลาคม 2552 ณ บ้านมูลนิธิว่า “เกซัง กุนเทรอ ซังตัง นักเซลลิง” แปลว่า “ป่าขทิระแห่งพระแม่ผู้นำพาทุกชีวิตไปสู่การหลุดพ้นในกัลป์อันประเสริฐ” ชื่อสั้นๆของศูนย์คือ “กุนเทรอลิง” คำว่า “เทรอ” มาจาก “เทรอมา/    เตรอมา” หมายถึงพระแม่ตารา ชื่อ “กุนเทรอ” ยังเป็นพระนามของพระแม่ชัมมา (ทรงมีคุณลักษณะเช่นเดียวกับพระแม่ตารา) และพระนามของฑากินีแห่งปัญญา พระแม่ทุกจี กุนเทรอมา

Khadiravana Center, Hua-Hin

The Thousand Stars Foundation (Pandara) invites volunteers to help build Thailand’s first Tibetan house to be used as a retreat/reception house for monks, nuns and lay practitioners and as a learning place for eastern wisdom.

The Foundation will provide you with tent accommodation, food and drinks for all meals. During this earth building period we will visit Thai and Karen villagers in the Pala-U waterfall area and give them warm clothes and blankets (donations are collected at the foundation house, Ladprao Soi 11 from now on till 18 November).

We will arrange a van for those who need transportation. There will be an expense of 800 bath per round trip, as we need to hire the van for 3 days.

Khadiravana is a Tibetan retreat center and a place for learning Tibetan/Himalayan art and wisdom. It is located at Makhasisong village, Nongplub district, Hua-Hin, Prachuab Khirikhan province, about 240 kilometers south of Bangkok.

ขทิรวันในยามนี้ยังคงเขียวชอุ่มด้วยฝน ยามใดที่ฝนตก ชาวบ้านจะมีความสุข เพราะเป็นโอกาสที่พวกเขาจะได้ไปเก็บเห็ดโคนบนภูเขา เห็ดหนึ่งกิโลขายได้หลายร้อยบาท ภายในไม่กี่วันบางคนหาเงินได้หลายพันบาท เท่ากับค่าแรงของพวกเขาตลอดทั้งเดือนถ้าพวกเขาทำงานเป็นลูกจ้างหรือเป็นแรงงานปลูกสับปะรด

เรื่องราวของเห็ดโคนทำให้ฉันนึกถึงชาวบ้านทิเบตที่มักจะขึ้นไปเก็บสมุนไพรบนภูเขา สมุนไพรตัวหนึ่งชื่อว่า ยาซา กุงบู (หน้าร้อนเป็นหญ้า หน้าหนาวเป็นหนอน) ทำรายได้ให้แก่ชาวทิเบตเป็นอย่างมาก แต่กว่าจะได้ยาซาสักตัว พวกเขาต้องเดินทางไกลและเหนื่อยยาก บางวันพวกเขาได้ยาซาเพียง 2-3 ตัวเท่านั้น

วันนี้เป็นวันที่สามที่คนงานหยุดงานเพื่อไปหาเห็ด ที่ขทิรวันจึงมีแต่ต้น ฝน น้องชัมมา (ลูกสาวของต้นกับฝนที่เพิ่งคลอด) แมวอีกนับสิบตัวพร้อมกับลูกแมวตัวเล็ก 2 ตัวที่คลอดหลังน้องชัมมาเพียงหนึ่งวัน

ฉันนั่งมองสถูปมนตร์ที่ลมพัดไหว ธงมนตร์โบกสะบัดนำความชุ่มช่ำมาสู่ดินแดน ฉันนั่งมองต้นสีเสียดที่โตวันโตคืน นึกถึงชีวิตเล็กๆที่เกิดขึ้นบนแผ่นดินแห่งนี้

ชัมมาเป็นเด็กหญิงคนแรกของเรา ชื่อนี้ฉันเป็นคนตั้งแปลว่า ความเมตตา ชัมมายังเป็นพระนามของพระพุทธเจ้าแห่งความรักและปัญญา

ต้นกับฝนมาอยู่กับเราได้เพียง 10 เดือน ชีวิตของพวกเขาได้เข้ามาเกี่ยวโยงกับพระพุทธเจ้าและพระโพธิสัตว์แบบทิเบต วันแรกที่พวกเขาเดินทางมาถึงขทิรวัน พวกเขามีเสื้อผ้ากระเป๋าเล็กๆกับข้าวสารหนึ่งกระสอบ เมื่อถามว่าเอาข้าวสารมาทำไมเยอะแยะ เขาตอบว่าชีวิตข้างหน้าเป็นอย่างไรไม่รู้ อย่างน้อยก็อุ่นใจว่ามีข้าวกิน

มาวันนี้พวกเขาให้กำเนิดชีวิตเด็กหญิงตัวเล็กๆ ที่ได้ชื่อภาษาทิเบต ก่อนน้องชัมมาจะคลอดเราก็ลุ้นกันว่าจะเป็นอย่างไรเพราะทั้งฝนและต้นต่างเป็นโรคธาลัสซีเมีย ฉันสอนให้ฝนสวดมนตร์ถึงพระแม่ตาราและพระแม่ชัมมา ญีมา ทรักปา ริมโปเช ขอให้ฝนสวดถึงพระแม่ชัมมาหนึ่งแสนจบ ฉันไม่ได้ถามว่าฝนสวดไปกี่จบ รู้แต่ว่าเธอมีศรัทธามั่นคง ตั้งใจสวดมนตร์และถวายเครื่องบูชาที่ศาลา แม้แต่ในระหว่างคลอดและกลับจากโรงพยาบาล ฝนก็สวดคาถาตลอดเวลา

มาวันนี้น้องชัมมาแข็งแรง พวกเขาทั้งสองมีความสุข พวกเขาและคนงานอีกสามคนได้กลายเป็นชีวิตที่ยิ่งใหญ่ที่ขทิรวัน

ตั้งแต่เมื่อวานซืนจนถึงวันนี้ เราเริ่มประเพณีสวดมนตร์ถึงธรรมบาล (พระผู้คุ้มครองและปกป้องพระธรรม) เยินเต็นปั้นตอร์มาแทนพระศรีเทวีหรือปัลเดน ลาโม ผู้เป็นธรรมบาลหลักที่เราสวดถึง และตอร์มาแทนธรรมบาลที่เป็นเหล่าบริวารของพระองค์ เขายังปั้นตอร์มาแทนเขาพระสุเมรุ ทวีปทั้ง 4 และเกาะทั้ง 8 ตัวฉัน ผู้ไม่มีพรสวรรค์เรื่องงานฝึมือ ช่วยปั้นลูกกลมๆขนาดใหญ่กว่าลูกกลอนเล็กน้อย 108 ลูก เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของอาหารและยาอันประเสริฐ

ประเพณีตอร์มานี้สืบมาแต่โบราณกาลก่อนที่พระพุทธศาสนาจากอินเดียจะเข้ามาเผยแผ่ในทิเบต ตอร์มาทำจากแป้งซัมป้าซึ่งเป็นแป้งข้าวบาร์เลย์คั่ว แต่อากาศเมืองไทยร้อน ตอร์มาปั้นจากซัมป้าอยู่ไม่คงทน เราคงจะต้องคิดหาวิธีใช้แป้งแบบอื่นแทนซัมป้า ในทิเบตจะใช้เนยปั้นเป็นเครื่องประดับเช่นกลีบดอกไม้ แต่ของไทยเรา เราใช้เนยเทียมคือดินน้ำมัน

สามวันที่ผ่านมา เสียงกลองดังหลายช่วงในหนึ่งวันปลุกทุกชีวิตให้นึกถึงความจริงแท้ที่ไม่มีมารยา เราขอพรจากพระศรีเทวีและเหล่าธรรมบาลให้โปรดขจัดปัญหาต่างๆให้หมดสิ้นไปและขอพรประทานแด่พระมหาสถูปและการงานต่างๆของพันดารา

อีกไม่นาน เมื่อแบบวิศวกรรมที่ต้องแก้ไขอีกครั้งเสร็จเรียบร้อย คนงานพระสถูปจะเข้ามาสร้างฐานรากต่อ เราจะเฝ้ารอวันที่ “ศานติตารา” อุบัติขึ้นบนโลกมนุษย์
