We must look for the root causes of problems. Even though life is full of suffering, it is also a chance to gain ultimate happiness. If life is too hectic, we must learn to move slowly and let go of things. ”Let it be,” that is what one of my teachers would say. Let things be what they naturally are.
If it’s too tiring to work 8 hours 7 days a week, we work less and rest more. There’s nothing more important than our healthy body and mind.
The key is we must not be upset with ourself. We must learn to love ourself. There’s nothing more important than this precious human body, no matter whether we are rich or poor, educated or not… If we don’t love ourself, it’s difficult for us to love others.
If our mind is agitated, we tame it by sitting quietly without thinking. If a thought comes, let it go. Don’t follow it. When another thought comes, we are not angry or upset with that state of mind. We just let it go naturally. Thoughts come and go, just like waves arise and die down, without being invited by the sea.
Learn to be with the awakened mind hidden inside, while our body is relaxed. Quietly, 5 or 10 minutes a day. You can do this anywhere like before you go to bed. The key is you must do it regularly.
When your mind is calm, you can think of a supreme being like Buddha or any sacred being who looks down upon you affectionately and compassionately just like a mother guards her child.
Think of Buddha or God, not as an object or external being, but as a personification of the greatest virtue of our mind. Think of great things we and others have done. Rejoice in those deeds. Sleep with that sacred happiness and peace of mind with Buddha as little as a seed in our heart. This way you will get up joyfully with a new perspective towards yourself and the world.
